While the people of Haiti die in the rubble and the children of Africa suffer an unthinkable existence, we grossly indulge in our privileged lives, spending billions to promote people who do little else but hone an athletic talent. Ah, we should all be so lucky to live merely to perfect an indulgence. And how the corporate wheel scoops it up and feeds off of it! Good old fashioned capitalism in full force.
Imagine what an enormous impact there would have been on humanitarianism and the catalyst towards world peace if the “powers that be” would forego the gross extravagance and “show-off” pageantry of even just the opening ceremonies to offer up those millions of dollars we watched go up in flames towards rebuilding a devastated country and to lifting our own up from desolation. Am I supposed to be a proud Canadian today?
