Huskies defeat Warriors, win H-P title

Stratford Northwestern Huskies won the Huron-Perth Conference Senior boys basketball championship Monday with a 45-38 win over St. Michael Warriors at St. Mikes.

The No. 1 seed Warriors led the contest 21-18 at the half, and the No. 2 seed Huskies were in front 30-27 after three quarters.

Leading Northwestern scorer was Mike MacMillan with 16 points. Nick Graver contributed 10 points, Tony Enns seven, Sean Leggett six, and Jake St. Pierre four.

Jeremy Dechert scored 10 points to pace St. Mikes, while Sam Love had seven, Anthony Stott six, Ben Valiquette five and Tyler Wesche four.

The Sr. Huskies are the lone Huron-Perth Conference ‘AAA’ representative at WOSSAA this Friday, Feb. 26. The TVRAA Southeast Conference is scheduled to host the Western championship at East Elgin S.S.

In Monday’s Junior final at Stratford Central, the host Rams defeated Listowel Lightning 47-41.

Semi-final results

In the Huron-Perth Senior semi-finals last Friday, first-place St. Mikes Warriors defeated Mitchell Blue Devils 40-34.

In the other Sr. semi-final, Northwestern defeated its cross-town rival, the Central Rams, 56-33.
In the Junior semi-finals, first-place Central Rams cruised to a 71-42 victory over the Central Huron Redmen from Clinton.

In the other semi-final, the visiting Listowel Lightning surprised the Warriors 41-37 at St. Mikes.

Quarter-final games

The Central Rams defeated the visiting F.E. Madill Mustangs from Wingham, 49-32, in the Senior boys quarter-finals last Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Graylen Howard had 16 points for the Rams, with Kael Graham contributing 12 and Michael Tomlinson 10 more.

In the other Senior quarter-final, Mitchell defeated Listowel Lightning 53-33.

Central Huron Redmen defeated Northwestern 49-33 and Listowel defeated South Huron Panthers 58-27 in the Junior boys quarter-finals.
