LONDON - A total of 14 Stratford Northwestern wrestlers took part in the WOSSAA championships held here at Westminster Secondary School last Friday, Feb. 19.
Huskies placed eighth out of 24 schools from Western Ontario, including St. Thomas, London, Tillsonburg, Goderich and Glencoe. With over 300 wrestlers taking part, the NW contingent was able to secure three silver medals.
Only first and second-place wrestlers earn the right to go to OFSAA. There are no Midget, Junior and Senior age groups, everyone wrestles all ages. The only distinguishing factor is weight class and sex.
Three Huskies will advance to OFSAA, being held in Tillsonburg. Earning silver medals at WOSSAA and advancing to the All-Ontario meet are: Michelle Jackson at 57.5 kg., Dylan MacDonald at 44 kg., and Dennis Tinning at 83 kg.
Placing fourth and just missing the OFSAA cut were Josh Bald at 57.5 kg., and Hayley MacKay at 61 kg.
Placing fifth were Cody Robinson and Dylan Tucker. Sixth-place finishers included Andrew Luckhardt and Clayton Pye.
Other wrestlers fighting well for Northwestern included: Maris Nicklas, Wilmer Auyon, Brandon Coxon and Scott Dobbin.
“Congratulations to all wrestlers. Also a big thank you to coaches Roth Roescisoender and Hurst Foster for a great season,” Huskies’ coach Dave Finnie said.
