'French Open' tennis tournament results

The Royal LePage Hiller Realty Junior Grand Slam series of tennis tournaments continued this past Saturday.

The ‘French Open’ tournament was rained out the previous Saturday, but was blessed with great weather this time. The ‘French Open’ is the second leg in the four-tournament series and saw about 40 Junior-aged tennis players participate.

The Girls Under-16 event saw one of the best matches of the day. Claire Scott won her second straight grand slam title when she edged Olivia Kramer 8-6 in the final.

The Girls Under-14 event also saw a repeat champion. Sonja Andrekovic continued her domination of the age group, scoring an 8-1 victory over Vienna Wilson in the final. The Girls Under-14 consolation champion is Maika Boettcher.

Alexandra Andrekovic took the Girls Under-12 championship, dominating Caitriona Buckley 8-1 in the final.

In the Boys Under-16 final, Steven Schwartzentruber won his first Grand Slam event. Schwartzentruber downed Brandon Gray 8-6 in the final.

The Boys Under-14 event saw a replay of the previous ‘Australian Open’ final, with Travis Hiller winning his second slam event by again defeating Jeremy Chisholm. Hiller won the match 8-3. In the Boys Under-14 consolation final, Connor Arms edged Matt Brown 8-6 to claim the title.

The Boys Under-12 category had quality matches throughout. Luke Fischer took the championship with an 8-5 victory over Aidan Buckley. The Under-12 consolation final was a thrilling match as Will Thibeault edged Leam Hughes 8-7 (7-3).

The Sunday doubles part of the ‘French Open’ was rained out. The next leg of the Royal LePage Hiller Realty Grand Slam will be held July 25-26 when the ‘Wimbledon’ event takes place.
